About WCAS

The Wake County Autism Society (WCAS) is a nonprofit organization supported by volunteer board and committee members. We are an affiliate of the Autism Society of North Carolina (ASNC), which is an affiliate of the Autism Society of America (ASA). We work together to benefit individuals and their families affected by an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

We believe that individuals with an ASD can be productive members of our community or can grow through appropriate interventions and treatments so that they become productive members. In addition, we believe that the Wake County community can grow through acceptance of and interaction with individuals with differences to be a complete community that welcomes a diverse population.

Mission Statement

The Wake County Autism Society is a charitable organization with the mission to build bridges for understanding through support and information to assist Wake County families, individuals and professionals experiencing autism.

Vision Statement

The Wake County Autism Society strives to create a community where individuals with autism and their families receive respect, services and support dependent upon individual needs and preferences.

Value Statements

  1. We respect the value of the uniqueness of all individuals within the autism spectrum; when given the opportunity, each individual can make a valuable contribution to his or her family, community, and society.
  2. We support individuals within the autism spectrum, their families, and their friends.
  3. We promote public awareness and understanding of the autism spectrum and advocate for public policy and funding that expands research as well as medical, therapeutic, educational, vocational, recreational, social, and residential/respite options.
  4. We encourage and promote cooperative relationships among schools, agencies, organizations, and other professionals involved in the lives of people within the autism spectrum. We value relationships founded on honesty, ingegrity, and mutual respect.
